The department is equipped with modern and advanced equipment for chemical and materials analysis. Equipment includes FT-NMR and spectrometers, one mass spectrometer equipped with a GC-TOF module and a MALDI Micro module, one triple-quadrupole MS/MS system, an ion-trap MSn system, X-ray diffractometers, a Bruker FT-IR / FT-Raman system, a UV-Vis fluorimeter, GC / MS, HPLC. Students of our department can also get access to the Materials Characterization & Preparation Facilities (MCPF), which is a central facility for synthesis, study and analysis of new materials. MCPF provides services mainly for academic research in HKUST. It consists of eleven main research laboratories for sample preparation, optical characterization, surface analysis, electron microscopy, scanning probe microscopy, electrical and magnetic characterization, thin film deposition, thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction
Students of our department can also get access to Nanosystem Fabrication Facility (NFF). NFF of HKUST is the first nanofabrication laboratory established at a tertiary institution in Hong Kong since 1991, which aims to help researchers in HKUST in the area of Micro/Nano devices and systems with its advanced fabrication facilities, providing various equipment for different processes. There are six main modules in NFF, including mask making module, photolithography module, wet etching and CMP module, thermal diffusion and ion implantation module, dry etching and sputtering module and metrology, offering services in the following areas: 3D Nano-electronics devices, display technology, micro-sensors, micro-electro mechanical system, silicon photonics technology, power semiconductors devices and technology, advanced packaging program, advanced process module development, gene chip and compound semiconductor technology
